Business grew slowly but surely from 1987, by the early 1990s the capacity of the converted garage had met its limits. A unit in Swords on the Forest Rd was taken, Mairead our first full-time member of staff was taken on and a new refrigerated van was acquired. It was all going on in the 90s Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, Pearl Jam….. Offaly, Clare and Wexford hurling and the growth of Techno and K&L.
During the 90s K&L continued to grow as a wholesale supplier of fresh hand-crafted cakes and desserts to the restaurants, gastro pubs, hotels and golf clubs of North Dublin and its surrounds. The most popular cakes of the period Pavlova, Lemon Cheesecake, Apple Pie, Sherry Trifle and Black Forest. These of course are still incredibly popular today. K&L met the needs of restaurants who were limited on kitchen space and time yet needed a quality selection of desserts.
By the turn of the century circa 2000 plans had been drawn up to convert the business park on Forest Rd Swords into a residential estate. Margaret had to go looking for a new home. By early 2002 the move had been made to 1 Rathcross Business Park, Ashbourne Co. Meath, A84 DX30. We have been trading here ever since. We continued to grow and built a presence in Ashbourne / Ratoath where people have come to us for their celebration cakes throughout the last two decades. Our main wholesale business continued to grow, luckily we managed to survive the 2009 crash and recession.
Hopefully now during these particularly difficult Covid 19 times we can manage to navigate our way through.
